Service Description

Death is something we will all face and yet it has become a taboo subject in the Western world and death avoidance is big business. In healthcare the aim is often that death will be a never event which has had catastrophic effects on staff ability to know how to manage and deal with the issue when it arises. This workshop explores the concept of death in our own live and practices. Aims of this workshop are to: ● Make friends with the concept of death in our own lives and explore how we can live more fully because of it ● To enhance confidence in the helping professions in supporting clients to grapple with their own mortality eg when considering suicide ● To explore societal beliefs around death ● Explore choice in connection with death It is intended that after this workshop you will gain more knowledge, confidence and skill in talking to others about death alongside an increased understanding of yourself and the role death plays in your own life. Who is this workshop for ? This workshop is suitable for anyone working in the helping professions eg Counsellors, nurses, doctors, social workers, student healthcare professionals etc… Areas covered In a 6 hour day (1000 - 1630) we will cover the following: ● How did death become taboo? - the history of death as we now know it ● My mortality - my best friend? ● Talking about death ● Choice ● Leaving a legacy A completion certificate for 6hours CPD will be provided at the end of the course. FEE: £80 workshop fee £70 (£10 discount for students) £90 in abundance - if you are in abundance and can afford to pay extra, £20 of your fee will be used to help fund a place in one of our workshops for people with lived experience of mental distress or on benefits. No lunch provided
